To have been to the Brocken once in a lifetime is a dream for many people. ‘With the puffing Brocken railway, that would be it’ - we hear this sentence from guests time and time again. However, the Brocken railway is just one part of the extensive network of the Harz narrow-gauge railway (HSB). With over 140 kilometres, the HSB has the longest narrow-gauge railway network in Germany. 

In the vehicle workshop of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen the entire technology is maintained and serviced.

Wernigerode Castle has a lot to offer of both, but even without the reasons mentioned, it deserves a place on the ‘must-see list’.
The originally medieval castle is the town's landmark and can be explored on two different museum tours.
