Stamping in the Harz Mountains

The Harz Hiking Needle is a unique project that connects the Harz region across federal state borders. The stamping points of the Harz Hiking Needle can be found at 222 interesting hiking destinations throughout the Harz Mountains. The stamp boxes are located at forest restaurants, mountain huts and viewpoints.

Hikers can press a stamp into their hiking pass at these stamping points. After reaching a certain number of stamps, the Harzer Wandernadel awards the successful hiker a bronze, silver or gold hiking pin. Particularly hard-working hikers can be named Hiking Queen. Anyone who has collected all the stamps on the hiking pin can be crowned the Harz Hiking Emperor.

 How it works

  • 1. get your personalised stamp pass
    e.g. from us at the Tourist Information Centre or in our online shop

  • 2. hike & collect stamps
    Collecting stamps is not time-bound, so it can take several years

  • 3. acquire a hiking pin
    Is possible, for example, at our tourist information centres in Wernigerode & Schierke

Location of the stamping points

Overview map

The stamp points of the Harz Hiking Needle can be found at 222 different locations throughout the Harz Mountains.

From the "Konradsburg" (HWN201) in the east to the "Hütte im WeltWald" (HWN129) in the west and from the "Sudmerberger Warte" (HWN108) in the north to the "Reesbergdoline" (HWN214) in the southern Harz.

In addition, there are a large number of permanent special postmarks at locations in the Harz Mountains, such as the "Zweiländereiche", the "Glasmanufaktur Derenburg" or the "Luftfahrtmuseum Wernigerode". A detailed overview can be found on the Wandernadel website.

Temporary special stamps are set up on certain occasions.
