Family vacation in the Harz Mountains

Holiday experiences in Wernigerode & Schierke

Going hiking with the children in the Harz Mountains is certainly a good idea. But what do you do as a family in Wernigerode and the surrounding area when the sun isn't shining and it's raining or the children don't feel like it?

Whether indoors or outdoors - there are many things for families to discover. The Bürgerpark with its numerous playgrounds, the ‘Kleiner Harz’ miniature park, the aviation museum, a city rally through the historic centre of Wernigerode or a hike with a ranger through the unspoilt national park are just a small selection of family activities.

May we introduce ourselves?

We are the Brockenbande.

Piotr, Henry, Hanna, Emma und Luke

The five of us are travelling in the Harz Mountains and experiencing all kinds of adventures. Full of action, great technology, fabulous nature, mighty medieval buildings and magical stories you can experience together with us.

Take a look inside. See and hear what we experience in our Harz region.

Bürger- & Miniature Park ’Kleiner Harz’

Experience the whole Harz Mountains in one day. Is that possible?

Yes, in the miniature park with its 60 models. Sights such as the imperial palace in Goslar, the castle in Wernigerode, the collegiate church in Quedlinburg or the mighty cathedral in Halberstadt can be marvelled at. And between all the sights worth seeing, the miniature narrow-gauge railway whizzes up to the Brocken summit.

After your visit to the ‘Little Harz’, head to the Bürgerpark. The children play in one of the numerous playgrounds and the parents stroll through the park's themed gardens.

Afterwards, everyone meets up for a family picnic on one of the many meadows?

Can we go to the playground?

Emma's recommendations for a relaxing afternoon in the playground.

There are plenty of playgrounds in Wernigerode and the surrounding area. Here are our recommendations.

Many other places with cool playgrounds can be found on our children's city map.

Children's city map

What can I do with my children in Wernigerode?

We often hear this question at our tourist information centre. For this reason, we have compiled all the activities for children in a children's city map.

You can download the children's city map. We would also be happy to send it to you.

Schierker Feuerstein Arena

There's always action in the Schierker Feuerstein Arena. In summer there is a bouldering wall and a roller skating rink where you can let off steam. Bouncy castles and lots of toys complete the offer.

In winter, of course, there is ice skating. Ice disco, curling and the Schierker winter sports weeks with ice carnival are highlights in the winter events calendar.
